About

Welcome to the world of a Midwestern writer, photographer, and nature play advocate.

Samantha Cora Christian Haas is a freelance journalist, author of the children’s picture book “Waverly Braves the Breeze: The Story of a Galápagos Albatross,” and creator of Playful Acorns, which connects kids and caregivers to nature and community.

Sam grew up exploring the woods near her family’s cabin up north and farm in southern Wisconsin, home to one of the planet’s largest concentrations of drumlins (long hills formed by glaciers).

The name Under the Drumlin Sun is meant to remind us that we are all children of the earth who can live beautifully rooted in the past, focused on the present, and mindful of the future.

Current newsletters include:

  • In A Nutshell: Connecting families with upcoming nature and creative play events in Dane County, WI, recommended by Playful Acorns.

  • On The Bookshelf: Sharing a love of storytelling, upcoming author events, projects, and favorite reads — especially picture books.

  • Through The Viewfinder: Capturing natural moments through the camera lens and sharing the latest additions to Greentree Gifts (coming soon).
